Zhong Ding Seminars and Championship Results 2010

The weekend of Saturday 10 July 2010 and Sunday 11 July 2010, saw the return of Nigel Sutton to the East Midlands region and a weekend of Tai Chi Seminars followed by the 2010 Master Liang He Qing Championship.

The weekend took place at Nottingham Trent University on Sunday 11 July 2010.

Students and Competitors from around the UK and Ireland travelled to the campus to take part.

Saturday saw a day of seminars delivered by Master Instructors David Spencer, Darren Roberts, Don Harradine, Andy Norman and Ken (Junior) Mead followed by an afternoon session with Nigel Sutton.

The seminar brought together students of all ages and abilities, who had the opportunity to take part range of seminars focussing on form, pushing hands and weapons work.

It was a great opportunity for everyone to train with old friends and meet new ones.

Once the training was completed, everyone retired to the local pub for a hearty meal and some good conversation.

Sunday saw the Master Liang He Qing Championship where students competed in a range of events throughout the day.  The events including empty hand and weapons form, tui shou (pushing hands), weapons sparring and Silat Cerita

The event started early on the Sunday morning with a warm up demonstration by the Lao Hu Squad and then moved on to the form event.  A wide range of empty hand and weapons forms were demonstrated.

The form events were followed by the tui shou (pushing hands) events broken into weight categories. All competitors entered with great enthusiasm with competitors enjoying the familiar friendly rivalry between brothers who meet in the same weight category each year.

The Silat Cerita event provided some fantastic athletic and imaginative displays, particularly that of the gold medal winner, Chris Sims.

The finale was the weapons sparring with a surprise entry from May Sims who fought hard in her rounds.  There were some epic battles which were enjoyed by all.

The whole event was overseen and judged by Nigel Sutton and panels which included senior instructors; Darren Roberts, Andy Norman, Don Harradine, Tony Ulatowski and Ken (Junior) Mead.

As part of the final presentation of medals the Zhong Ding Lao Hu Squad made a special presentation to their squad coaches to say thank you for all the knowledge, time and effort they have imparted on the squad.  Their dedication to the squad has helped the team gain a number of competition medals in such a short time.

Don Harradine (left) is the Head Coach and Ken (Junior) Mead (right) is the pushing hands coach.  They have both given up many hours of their time to train and support the squad.

An award was also received for Graham Ball the squad drill instructor who was unable to attend.
